As an educator and mother it is natural that I would be directly involved with children, but I can honestly say that it goes beyond that. I have a deep desire to make the lives better for any child I come in contact with. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to work with some amazing organizations, even before my goal of being Mrs. North Carolina. I can remember volunteering at the Charlotte Soup Kitchen throughout high school, and folding baby clothes at HELP Crisis Pregnancy Center in Monroe. It was not something I had to do, it was a joy for me to be able to help others. When it came down to teaching, I knew I wanted to work at a school where the students needed what I had to offer. Not just a teacher who would teach them what they needed to know to go to the next level, but a teacher that would be invested in their lives. I have always worked at a Title One School, where the majority of the students are below the poverty line. What a Blessing this has been for me. Each year I am given the opportunity to shape the lives of so many wonderful children, and in return they have shaped mine. What a great opportunity to share my passion for helping and community with each one of my students. This year we have worked with the American Red Cross to send over 800 Christmas Cards to our wounded soldiers, and those serving overseas. We made 50 butterflies for Hope Cancer Ministries to deliver to cancer patients and their caregivers. We have raised over $2,700 dollars in my two years as team captain for Relay for Life at Koontz Elementary, something that is unheard of at a school where most student's can not afford their own lunch. Why am I telling you this? Not for a pat on the back, or a congratulations, but to show you what children are capable of. My students are learning compassion, honor, respect, and at such a young age. We are showing them that yes they may have disadvantages in life, but they can always help someone else. This is not just a platform, this is who I am.
Follow me on my journey for the title of Mrs. North Carolina United States as Mrs. Southern Piedmont.

Glamour Shots by Kev
Here is a look at some of the photos my amazing brother in law took for the pageant. Now Kevin does photography on the side and usually it is more of family pictures, children shots, and special events...but WOW, I think pageant photography might be in his future. Check him out at Our Town Photography.
